3.26.09 Tengwang Pavilion

It is now Thursday, we started off with usual breakfast at the Atrium Cafe. Maelyne is eating more solid food and she enjoyed her food this morning. We left the hotel at 10:00 am to the Tengwang Pavilion, which happens to be a block away from our hotel, so everyone walked there. The weather is on the low 60s so it was comfortable. This is our last sightseeing here in Nanchang before we fly to Guangzhou on Saturday morning. The pavilion is known as one of the three famous architectural monuments to the south of the Yangtze river. It was built in the 4th year of the Tang Dynasty byt the Tengwang (king) Li Yuan Ying. There are six stories high which features blue tiles, overlapping eaves, colorfully painted roof beams, and red pillars at the main body of the pavilion. We started on the sixth floor where we were treated with a traditional chinese music and some dances. We went out to the balcony to see a great view of the beautiful landscape of green hills and clear water. It was quite a sight! We made our way down to each of the remaining floors where there would be displays of the history of this pavilion and some shops set up. We bought a few things for Maelyne and some souvenirs. The tour was only a couple hours then we walked back to the hotel and had lunch at the Atrium Cafe again. Maelyne enjoyed the pork soup mixed with rice and braised egg.
We got copies of her birth certificates and notarial certificates both in Chinese and English versions just a little after lunch. These are official documents so they will be secured.
Maelyne took a nap but she only slept for 30 minutes. It is only 2:30 pm so we decided we go out and shop but it was raining so we went to the playroom instead. We are still working on her crawling but she's improving. She likes to be in the walker mostly going backwards and sidewards but she's learning her forward moves. It is time to go back to the hotel room. On our way back, we passed by the health club and I looked at the signs by the door and said "pedicure" so I thought I have one before we leave Nanchang. When we got back to the room, I dialed 2 to call for an appointment only to be told "no English" so I went down and I just pointed at the service I wanted to have. I left Maelyne and Henry for the first time since we became a family. So back at the club, a guy ushered me in to a room where the pedicure is to be done but I did not see any spa or any nail polish or the the usual things I see when I go to the salon at home. So I am kind of confused. Anyway, he told me in his broken English he'll clean my feet so I thought okay, maybe he usually starts with soaking the feet in hot water with some kind of herbs. So he came back in with I thought his pedicure set and towels. It thought it is really bizzare. Did not see any clippers or nippers for cleaning but instead he had these like scalpels all lined up evenly on the towel like he's going to do a surgery. He did switch the television to an English channel so I can understand. So, he started cleaning my feet after they are being soaked for about 15 minutes. He offered me a foot massage which I said go ahead, I needed one anyway but I did not get the pedicure I wanted. Oh well... the foot cleaning was not too bad afterall and the foot massage was relaxing.
I hurried back to the room. I was gone for about an hour and a half. I missed Maelyne already. For sure she and Henry had more bonding together. She was all smiles when I saw her like she had missed me, too. One great news was she had the #2 business at last. I can tell by the smell as soon as I walked in. Poor Henry, he has to clean her up but he managed it well. His first time to change a dirty diaper. What a good timing for me, ha,ha.
Our laundry was delivered so we have clean clothes going to Guangzhou on Saturday.
It was already 6:30 pm and we are all hungry. We decided to have dinner at the Sampan Seafood Restaurant. Two other adoptive families were there, too. We all enjoyed dinner and we are back to our room. Since Maelyne only napped for half hour during the day, she went down to sleep at about 9:00 pm and she's in deep sleep right now. Oh and she's sleeping on our bed again.
She likes us being next to her or we like her being next to us. Either way... :)
