Maelyne slept from about 9:30 pm until I woke her up at 7:30 am for breakast. She has been eating and drinking well which we are happy about. She still need to work on her #2 business though. We have been feeding her baby prune food so hopefully that will help her to go regularly. We left the hotel at 10:00 am to the People's Park with the rest of the families. The weather is on the high 50s and the sun was up so it was not too bad. In China, make sure the babies are covered up properly to keep them warm. The legs or arms should not be exposed otherwise the older people will come to you and tell you it is not okay. They are like the"clothing police" and it is well known among those foreigners who adopt here in China. Maelyne of course was dressed up properly for the walk. The park we went to is one of the biggest parks in Nanchang according to Mary. It was beautiful and since it is spring, the flowers like the cherry blossoms are blooming. We can tell Maelyne was curious with a lot of things around her. She enjoyed the ride in the stroller.
After an hour walk, we headed to one of the poor villages in Nanchang. Though the residents here do not have much they are very hospitable. One house we went into, the couple who is probably in their 70s were having lunch and offered us to eat with them. The food on the table looked delicious but of course we did not join them. We said "xiexie" (thank you) and continued our venture. It was a good 20 minute tour of the village and looking back where we came from I can relate to them. These people do not have a lot of material things but they are happy and grateful with what they have.
We headed back to the hotel room. It is now 12:30 pm and Maelyne is now hungry(us too), we can tell by her cries. We fed her with the rice cereal mixed with some apple paste. She liked it but she did not eat much because she wanted to sleep. She napped for maybe 30 minutes and while she was napping, we decided to order food delivered to our room (again). I was bummed she only napped this short, we had not eaten our lunch yet. Anyway, she was a happy baby when she woke up. We fed her again, this time she shared our Udon noodles and we also gave her the baby prune food.
She had a bath this afternoon, her second since we got her. Still did not like the water much but we managed to give her a good bath. This time she had a longer nap about 3 hours. It is now 5:30 pm and we were supposed to join he group for a dinner. Since Maelyne is still napping, I went with the group only to order take out and came back to the hotel to have dinner with both of them. I have to wake her up because it was already 6:30 pm and we have a "fountain show" to go to at 7:45 pm. So, we went to see the show, it was a 10 minute ride from the hotel. It was Maelyne's first time to go out at night. It was not too cold so it was nice to be out. The show was spectacular, ten times better than the one at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Although it only lasted for 20 minutes, it was worth seeing it. Maelyne was not really into the show, but was interested with the people she saw around her.
Back to the hotel, we know she will not go to sleep soon because of her long nap earlier. I thought her napping schedule will need to change, I'll work on that. We were able to put her down to sleep though around 9:30 pm on our bed again. Maelyne continues to do very well with us. She feels very secure when she sees us around her. Loves to be hugged and carried especially by Henry. She learned the "flying kiss" today and she is talking more. We are working on the crawling, we think she got the idea but she does not bend her legs so she gets frustrated. I don't think she's had much opportunity to do this in the orphanage. She recognizes her American name now. Everyday, she amazes us with what she can do. We are very happy that she seems to be adjusting and bonding to us quickly.
